Time, Lynchets and Myths & Legends
The monoprints in the Lynchets and Legends page all relate to an interest in our past, both mythical and actual, and the physical evidence left.
I have worked on many paper collages and my method is equally as much about destroying as creating - using discarded drawings to create and painting into it, only then to abandon the original and re-use for another project, probably more destruction than creation!
Those used in my printmaking were cut-up and the plates used for printing. The Lynchet Series arose from a collage I had been working on. Archaeological traces partially hidden beneath the blanket of landscape is akin to the technique used for collage, painting and printing, where images are mostly covered but can retain traces of what lies beneath the surface. The end product became a series of relief mono-prints documenting the effects of visual time - light, on the historic landscape.
The same plate used in the Lynchets was used for several of the Myths and Legends series.
